News: IntelliDOT Patents Wireless Healthcare PDA Technology
Mar 27, 2008

IntelliDOT, which provides of handheld, bedside point-of-care (BPOC) solutions to hospitals, have announced that it has secured a key patent covering the use of intelligent handheld terminals for medical care administration. On March 18, 2008, the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued U.S. Patent No. 7,344,079 to IntelliDOT for its innovative, wireless terminal known as the CAREt Handheld.

The CAREt System is the first wireless, nurse-centric workflow manager to connect caregivers with the information systems they need at the point-of-care. Built on a design that complements the way nurses work, the CAREt System provides a straightforward user interface that supports a comprehensive approach to medication safety and documentation at the bedside, in a variety of healthcare settings. The lightweight, wireless CAREt Handheld enables nurses to perform safety checks and safely administer medications at the bedside with just one hand.

"This patent further solidifies our technology leadership in the marketplace for automated hospital medical care administration," says Dr. William H. Roof, vice president engineering, IntelliDOT Corporation."Our customers know they are using a very unique system and handheld device and this patent award supports that."

Introduced in 2002, IntelliDOT's CAREt System Handheld device has been selected by leading institutions including 55 Health Management Associates (HMA) hospitals and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. At a time when medication errors are under increasing scrutiny, IntelliDOT's CAREt system can help hospitals reduce them to almost zero.

"While the technology that supports the CAREt wireless handheld is indeed very advanced, it is important to remember that the system itself could not be easier to use," said Thomas G. Klopack, president and CEO of IntelliDOT. "Because the system was designed by nurses for nurses, nursing acceptance and satisfaction is extremely high which is critical to improving medical care administration."
